Full Circle Fund: Bringing Involvement Full Circle
Josh Becker, Democratic candidate for State Assembly (21st District), has long been concerned with improving his community and sharing Silicon Valley’s resources with all of the communities in the area.
In the late 1990s, technology companies were booming, venture capital companies had millions at their disposal and a bright new generation of business leaders was emerging. Yet, California public schools were continuing to struggle, and the influx of entrepreneurs into the Bay area was deepening the affordable housing crisis.
Becker wanted to innovate not just in the business sector, but in the nonprofit sector. He knew that if he could take successful professionals from the business, government and nonprofit worlds and pair them with organizations, their ideas and know-how would create change for the community.
So in 2000, he formed the Full Circle Fund, which is cultivating the next generation of community leaders and driving lasting social change in the Bay Area.
“I started Full Circle Fund because I cared about what was happening in my local community and I wanted to be involved in helping fix education, affordable housing, the digital divide and the environment,” Becker says.
Full Circle Fund members leverage their time, money, skills and connections to the service of nonprofits and government agencies, resulting in a significant impact on the community.
Full Circle has four circles of influence: education, global economic opportunity, technology and the environment.
“We are moving the needle in our issue areas,” Becker says. “We are cultivating future leaders in the business world and the non-profit world, informing people of the issues and helping them support substantial change. People are contributing on a meaningful level and becoming more heavily involved in their communities.”
